Sapphicon Seminconductor uses process technology based on Silicon-on-Sapphire (SoS). This is where CMOS integrated circuits are created in a thin layer of silicon on an insulating substrate of Sapphire.
This process technology has characteristics that make it superior to normal bulk silicon processes in certain applications, particularly RF, mixed signal/analog and radiation hard applications.
SoS is not a boutique technology and can be produced in normal high volume CMOS wafer fabs to allow an almost unliimited growth path.
As well as designing and manufacturing integrated circuits, Sapphicon is using SoS technology to create a range of advanced technologies. These will be announced as they become available.
