Sapphicon renews AS9100 certificate
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - 11 November 2009. Sapphicon Semiconductor is pleased to announce that it has renewed its AS9100 Certification so that it can continue to supply to the space, defence and aerospace markets.
The renewal of the AS9100 certificate demonstrates the company's commitment to the space, defence and aerospace industries. The team at Sapphicon has supplied high performance integrated circuits to this market for almost 10 years.
Many of the satellites in orbit have integrated circuits manufactured at Sapphicon's facilities. The Mars Rover also has devices that were manufactured here as well.
AS9100 is the first global quality management standard and the most stringent certification intended to ensure consistency of quality for the space, defence and aerospace industries throughout the supply chain.
Jeremy Greenwood, Quality Assurance Director, said, "There have been a number of changes in the company since the last audit, including the creation of an integrated circuit design team, and a technology development group. New procedures and processes had to be developed for these groups. The re-audit showed that the new procedures meet or exceed the standard."
Sapphicon's Silicon-on-Sapphire (SoS) semiconductor process technology is ideal for creating complex, high performance integrated circuits for space, defence and aerospace applications. SoS was originally developed for the space program because of its radiation hardness and cryogenic properties.
Sapphicon also maintains an ISO 9001 certification for customers who do not require the more stringent aerospace quality standards.
