Introduces Compressed Reticle

February 2009, Sydney, Australia. Sapphicon Semiconductor, a designer and manufacturer of high performance integrated circuits based on Silicon-on-Sapphire process technology has introduced a low cost prototyping service called Compressed Reticle.

The staff at Sapphicon have many years of experience in manufacturing Multi-Project Wafers for a wide range of customers.

Andy Brawley, CEO said, "MPWs are a low cost method of providing mask tooling for designers of ICs.  However, a number of compromises needed to be made.

MPWs have a number of drawbacks such as the need to share the wafer with other users, limited die area, fixed dates for runs and so on.

The Compressed Reticle service overcomes these issues and provides greater flexibility for the user.

Tooling is dedicated to each individual customer's design and a complete wafer of chips is supplied.  In many cases there are enough devices on the wafer to fulfill small production runs.

There are no fixed dates for runs.  Users can submit designs at any time and receive wafer/s back within a few weeks.

The low cost prototyping service is available now. Design kits are available for a range of processes.
